U.S. Bank was founded in 1863 as the First National Bank of Cincinnati, Ohio. It was the first national bank in the United States and the first bank to receive a federal charter. In 1929, it changed its name to U.S. National Bank of Cincinnati and in 1968, it changed its name to U.S. Bank National Association. Since then, the bank has grown to become one of the largest banking institutions in the United States.
